(Ajit) #2

Hi @sscarduzio,
Again I am giving you clarity about requirement.

  1. Give me configuration for LDAP. In bind_dn I am using one user example c-shubhamg and his OU/DC all.
  2. This user should be logged into kibana. and he should be accessible to only index1. Not index2.

Now please don’t confuse about requirement. All LDAP users should be able to login into kibana and they should be accessible for specified indexes only. We are going to buy readonlyrest. But please provide us LDAP proper/Working configuration. We have tried lots of configurations given by you but all are not working. Please finish this as soon as possible.

(Ajit) #3

Hi @sscarduzio,
I have raised query on elasticsearch forum for .kibana index not found. They have given me below reply.

Hey, you will need to give the Kibana user you use to connect to Elasticsearch write permissions for the .kibana index, since Kibana otherwise can’t write into that index (i.e. not even create it).

(Simone Scarduzio) #4

@ajit that request has good credentials, and authorization is not an issue here. The .kibana index is created and initialised by the kibana process as soon as it’s launched (if not present). So unless you have configured Elasticsearch with action.auto_create_index: false or other values that don’t include .kibana, it should have been there.

Points worth noting:

  1. SSL works
  2. That exception is printed in debug mode and could be transient (i.e. Kibana trying to assess if the index exists or not)

Is the stack trace something you can reproduce every time? Or was it a one off?

If you send curl -k -ukibana:kibana "https://elasticsearch-host:9200/_cat/indices" can you see the .kibana index?

(Ajit) #5

Hi @sscarduzio,
Not getting kibana index using curl query. Also I am able to login using admin and kibana user. From these users login I am able to use dev tool and I have tried GET /_cat/indices?v query but not showing kibana index.

(Simone Scarduzio) #6

So the index exists! Can you save index patterns? Or save visualizations?

(Ajit) #7

Hi @sscarduzio,
We want LDAP users not kibana and admin. There should be one admin but as of now concentrate on LDAP users. Can you please explain me why LDAP users are not able to login. Getting authorisation exception.
Please help on this topic only as soon as possible.

(Simone Scarduzio) #8

No I can’t explain: because if the .kibana index does not exist, then you are not able to log in as admin or kibana. Plus, according to your report you are not getting authorization exception, you showed me another exception: index not found exception. Am I missing something from this?

(Simone Scarduzio) #9

Can you just email me the whole debug ES log relative to a failed attempt by a LDAP user?

(Ajit) #10

Hi @sscarduzio,
According to you kibana index is not necessary for LDAP users login then skip kibana index not found exception.
Skip that topic. But When I tried login using LDAP users getting authorisation exception on login screen 401.
Getting below exception on login screen :warning:️ Could not login: Unauthorized (401).
Now please read our configuration: If there is anything missing please let us know. And I am not talking about kibana and admin users. Concentrate on LDAP users.

look, everything seems ok. Will wait on the logs.

(Ajit) #13

Hi,
@Akhilesh or Amol Kulkarni will send you email with attachment of logs. Please check the logs and let us know what is the issue. Please complete the setup as soon as possible.

(Ajit) #14

Hi @sscarduzio,
We got your mail. But as you mention in mail that properties we have not used in elasticsearch.yml. And please finish this topic as soon as possible.

(Ajit) #15

Hi @sscarduzio,

I have re-installed all applications elasticsearch, kibana and reconfigure. Now I am getting below exception.

Hi @sscarduzio,
After starting kibana getting above exception. java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: text is empty (possibly HTTP/0.9).

Please reply as soon as possible.

Hi Simone Scarduzio,

still we are facing the same issue “index not found exception”.
please give us a appropriate solution ASAP to finish this issue.

you might have messed up https/http

You know what? Can you try to make this work without ROR? So we see if your ELK setup is healthy to begin with. And we remove variables from the problem.

If all is good, I would expect that the “.kibana” index will certainly be created (please verify that), and when you re-enable ROR, it can’t tell you the index is not there.
